Nash Proios and Maria Tyers, Six οld electronic devices of various sizes, colors, smells and textures, 2024, installation, electronic components, acrylic, wire, thread, ribbon, balloon, bubble wrap, variable dimensions

Creative Audio Description

The installation consists of six electronic objects with creative interventions. A charger cable is wrapped with colorful threads and wire, while its battery is covered with fragments of dried, colored acrylic paint. A computer mouse has its left button painted yellow and its right button painted grey. A portable battery has leaves glued to one side and a linear pattern on the other. A white USB cable is tied into loops with masking tape, green thread, red ribbon and wire. A small pink balloon is attached to a white earphone cable. Finally, a pair of black headphones that are wrapped with laminating paper along the axis, with the outer surfaces of the speakers painted red and their interiors filled with bubble wrap. Through the acts of repair, layering, and recomposition, the two artists explore the relationship between humans and technology, matter and time.

Matter acquires new life and the obsolete is transformed into a vehicle for sensory experience. The installation operates as a sensory field of reflection on the longevity of things and our relationship with the disposable. The old devices become small sites of contact, inviting the viewer to a slow, experiential reading. Here, the walk becomes a wandering among the remnants of the contemporary world, an observation of the transformations of matter as it transitions from decay to transmutation. The regenerated technological remnants reveal a renewed connection between matter, humanity and the environment.

Exhibition section: Transformations
