Vasiliki Siatara, How Many Different Pieces Are You Made Of?, 2024, painting, white bedsheet, acrylic paints, glass paint, 140 x 200 cm

Creative Audio Description

The work depicts the various fragments that make up human existence. It is painted with acrylic and glass paint on a white single-bed sheet. At its center dominates the oversized head of a girl, facing upwards. The face is rendered from the nose down to the neck, while from the upper part of the face emerge grey and red lines that transform into branches, flowers, and higher up, into hands holding a spoon and a plate with traces of food. The girl’s long hair, neck and blouse, positioned at the center of the composition, are drawn with minimal, sketch-like lines.

Three vividly colored rectangular shapes, a horizontal red one at the bottom, a vertical turquoise-green one at the lower right, and a bright yellow one roughly at the center of the sheet,  complete the composition like fragments of life and memory. The work reflects on diversity and coexistence: every distinct form, every different fragment of ourselves and of the world, belongs to a shared whole. Just as human presences intersect in our everyday walks, these pieces collectively shape the landscape of our existence.
