Creative Audio Description
Liza Stoitsi’s work “Untitled” consists of a white sheet of paper the size of a postcard, which has been exposed to flame, leaving traces of burning. The vertical marks form flowing lines reminiscent of drops running downwards, in shades ranging from light beige to dark brown and black. The flame has left embossed signs, both visible and tactile, revealing the path of heat and the time of combustion. The composition as a whole creates a relief effect that can be perceived through touch.
Fire acts as a living element of nature, a carrier of energy but also of decay. Through this process, the paper is transformed, acquiring its own materiality. As in nature, so too here, decay becomes memory and fragility is transmuted into beauty. Through fire, nature participates in creation; matter changes and reacts as it leaves its mark, like any living organism that withers and is reborn.
